Burpple App Growth: Over 150,000 Food Moments In More Than 3,300 Cities

Burpple food app is beautiful and now even more useful. The new Explore feature in its latest app release (v1.2) makes it easier for people to discover good food and like-minded foodies. Whereas foursquare’s Explore recommends places, Burpple recommends good food (photos posted by its community).

In the totally revamped Explore page, a user can find collections like What’s Good Nearby, Suggested Users, and Top Picks. Top Picks, for example, lists food recommendations and the list is based on the user’s current location. Using your GPS, the app can also guess which restaurant you are at and show you what others have eaten, liked and commented. A StumbleUpon-sort button on Burpple would be nice to aid serendipitous discovery.

Couples Shared 1.8 Billion Messages, 40 Million Photos On Between App

A year ago today, South Korean startup, VCNC released open beta of its couple app called Between. Since its launch, the couple app has been growing aggressively.

In July 2012, the app reached the 1 million downloads mark. Back then, it has 460,000 monthly active users with users exchanging a total of 4.5 million messages with one another. As of today, the Between have surpassed 700,000 MAUs, according to founder / CEO Jaeuk Park. Daily, users exchange a whopping 12 million to 13 million messages and posted 150,000 to 200,000 photos.

Last night, the Prime Minister Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Najib Razak has surpassed one million followers on Twitter. With this milestone, the Prime Minister has surpassed the one million mark on both Facebook and Twitter in 2012 (Facebook Page surpassed one million fans in May 2012). And this undoubtedly makes him the most followed Malaysian on Twitter and Facebook.

Path 3.0: My Wish List

Path remains my constant favorite iPhone app since its launch in November 2010. The ‘personal network’ app differentiates itself by limiting each user to share updates, or moments, with only 50 friends and family (later increased to 150). A year after the launch, Path 2.0 was unveiled with a massively revamped interface and an enhanced set of features. The new iteration won well-deserved raves, particularly for its über-cool interface design. Its daily active users went 10,000 to 300,000 in just two and a half weeks!

In Asia, Facebook Exceeds 200 Million Users But Growth Deceleration Continues

FACEBOOK NOW HAS OVER 950 MILLION USERS WORLDWIDE and 80% of its user base are from outside U.S. and Canada.

As of end of Quarter 2 2012, Facebook exceeds 200 million users in Asia. There are now 204.9 million Facebook users in Asia, which is roughly 27% of Facebook’s non-US/Canada user base.

Facebook opened its door to everyone worldwide on September 26 2006. In Asia, Facebook took 49 months to reach the 100 million users mark. With its unabating phenomenal popularity worldwide, the social networking giant took just 20 months to add another 100 million Asian users.

However, Facebook users growth in Asia has been slowing since the beginning of 2011, from its peak of 21% in Q4 2010. In second quarter of 2012, its Asian user base grew by 5.5%.

Mobile Photo Sharing App Pudding.to Surpasses Four Million Photo Uploads, Two Million Downloads


The $1 billion acquisition of Instagram by Facebook underscored the mobile photo sharing craze. But the recent closure of Andreessen Horowitz-backed PicPlz might signal an impending consolidation in the market space.

However, one of the latest entrants, Pudding.to app, has been growing impressively since its launch in February this year – Android on February 13 2012 and iOS on February 15 2012.

The mobile photo sharing app is developed by KT Hitel Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Korea Telecom Group (KT Group is Korea’s largest communications company). A week after its launch in February 2012, the social photo sharing app gained over 500,000 users and registered 1.65 downloads per second. Within two months, total app downloads exceeded two million with a total of 2,840,000 photos uploaded.

Today, there are over a million active Pudding.to users clicking a million photo likes a week, on average.

Japanese Gaming Giant DeNA To Co-Develop Mobile Social Games With Malaysia’s Terato Tech

Malaysian mobile games company Terato Tech has signed a co-development agreement with Japanese gaming giant DeNA Co., Ltd. at the Casual Connect Asia 2012 event in Singapore.

DeNA operates Japan’s leading mobile social games network, Mobage (pronounced moh-bah-geh) which has over 35 million users and more than 1800 games. DeNA’s main competitor GREE just announced open beta release of its global mobile social games network. No surprise DeNA has been busy extending and expanding Mobage outside of Japan.

In August 2011, the company setup DeNA Asia Pacific to strengthen its development capabilities in the Southeast and South Asia region. In addition to developers acquisition, DeNA Asia will also focus on the localization of the global edition of Mobage. In September last year, DeNA bought a game studio in Vietnam. Then in November 2011, the gaming giant signed an exclusive agreement to bring Vietnam-based VNG’s social games exclusively on Mobage platform.
