Japanese Gaming Giant DeNA To Co-Develop Mobile Social Games With Malaysia’s Terato Tech

Malaysian mobile games company Terato Tech has signed a co-development agreement with Japanese gaming giant DeNA Co., Ltd. at the Casual Connect Asia 2012 event in Singapore.

DeNA operates Japan’s leading mobile social games network, Mobage (pronounced moh-bah-geh) which has over 35 million users and more than 1800 games. DeNA’s main competitor GREE just announced open beta release of its global mobile social games network. No surprise DeNA has been busy extending and expanding Mobage outside of Japan.

In August 2011, the company setup DeNA Asia Pacific to strengthen its development capabilities in the Southeast and South Asia region. In addition to developers acquisition, DeNA Asia will also focus on the localization of the global edition of Mobage. In September last year, DeNA bought a game studio in Vietnam. Then in November 2011, the gaming giant signed an exclusive agreement to bring Vietnam-based VNG’s social games exclusively on Mobage platform.

Friendster Growth Gaining Traction After Relaunch in Asia

The new Friendster was launched on June 28 this year, with a focus on delivering more Asia-centric gaming contents. At the same time, it aims to enable games publishers and developers to tap into the vibrant Asian gaming markets. As part of the relaunch, Friendster unveiled a new logo and moved its business operations from the U.S. to Asia (operates mainly from three Asian countries namely in the Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore).

Since the relaunch, the pioneering social network Friendster is showing positive signs of rejuvenation. So far, the social network has attracted over half a million new users and now includes over 40 premium games and hundreds of free-to-play games and applications. More interestingly, the relaunch has breathed life into its Monthly Active Users and Daily Active Users, which have increased by 50%, to date.

Coming soon: Facebook Credits available at retail stores in Asia

Facebook Credits virtual currency platform set to expand its payment options in Asia. Facebook and MOL Global just announced a strategic partnership to enable the purchase of Facebook Credits using MOLPoints, an online micropayment system developed and managed by Malaysia-based MOL, one of the largest internet companies in South East Asia.

Credits, the official virtual currency on Facebook, enables the purchase of gifts and virtual goods for games and applications on Facebook platform. Popular games like Farmville, Millionaire City, Hotel City, Petville, Bejeweled Blitz, Hotel City, Barn Buddy, Likeness and hundreds other games and applications are already accepting Facebook Credits (up-to-date list of games here). There are over 200 million unique Facebook users playing games each month. Soon, these social gamers can buy Credits using MOLPoints. And they can reload the MOLPoints through MOL’s network of over 500,000 physical (e.g. 7-Eleven, cybercafes, bookstores), online banking and mobile payment channels, in over 80 countries.
